Harry “Bucky” Lew was basketball's first Black professional, and Northborough pros were there as his career progressed from becoming the game's first Black player to its first executive. In 1903, Northborough resident Florry Ellsworth played with Lew as part of Haverhill's entry into the New England Basketball League. Lew stayed in the pro game for 25 years and before he was done became the first Black coach, manager, referee, and team owner in integrated pro hoops. Lew's teams appeared frequently in Northborough and throughout New England. Join author Chris Boucher as he shares pictures and stories about Lew’s career and old-time basketball in general.
