Important Sewer News - Please Do Not Flush

DO NOT FLUSH LIST

Keep everything but toilet paper out of the sanitary sewer system.

Sanitary sewers are designed to dispose of three very specific things: water, toilet paper and human waste. Anything else must go in the trash. Just because a package may state “flushable” or “septic safe” doesn’t actually mean it is.

The following items should never be disposed of in the public sewer system:

Diapers (cloth, disposable or “flushable”)

Baby wipes, facial cloths, and toilet wipes (even those that say “flushable”)

Cleaning wipes, (i.e., Swiffer® wipes or equivalent), shop rags, etc.

Paper towels and napkins

Egg shells

Cooking oils and grease

Toilet bowl scrub pads

Disposable mops

Sanitary napkins, tampons, applicators

Condoms

Rags and cloths

Undergarments

Cotton swabs, cotton balls, bandages

Dental floss

Volatile substances (i.e., gasoline, chemicals, paint, etc.)

Syringes

Rubber gloves

Small toys

Plastic bags

Caps from any containers (shampoo, soda, etc.)

Medications of any kind

Flushing of these items into the public sewer system may cause major blockages in sewer lines (triggering back-ups in the system which may lead to damage in or on your property). These items also cause severe damage to expensive sewer equipment (i.e., grinder pumps) in the sewer collection system or inside the sewer treatment facility.
