Historic Asset Inventory
Northborough Historic Properties Inventory
The Town of Northborough funded a program to have its historic assets inventoried per Massachusetts Historical Commission guidelines. The focus of this inventory was to document properties, burial grounds, monuments and bridges that are over 100 years old.
This effort was conducted in two phases. The first phase focused on the oldest properties in town and the town center along Main Street. The inventory was done under contract with Boston Affiliates from Boston Massachusetts and was completed in January 2008. The second phase focused on the remaining assets older than 100 years. This phase was done under contract with the Public Archaeology Survey Team Inc. (PAST) from Stores Connecticut and was completed in October 2009.
The inventories have resulted in 257 Inventory Forms being submitted which represents a total of 371 buildings and objects being documented. In addition, 23 individual assets and 8 districts were identified as having potential for listing in the National Register of Historic Places.
In addition to the inventory information being on-line in this website, they can also be viewed at the Massachusetts Historical Commission website (http://mhc-macris.net/) and in files at the Northborough Town Hall and the Northborough Historical Society.
How to update and add Inventory Forms:
The inventory forms contain information on each asset that the contractors were able to obtain through the files at the Northborough Town Hall and the Northborough Historical Society. The information on these forms can be expanded and corrected. In addition, new inventory forms for properties older than 50 years can be added. Contact the Northborough Historic Commission either via Email or regular mail for information on how to update or add inventory forms.
