CHRONIC PAIN – SELF-MANAGEMENT

Northborough Senior Center will be hosting a free six-week program on chronic pain self-management, a participant education
program developed by Stanford University. The class is for adults living with and/or caring for someone with chronic pain.
The sessions are geared to help manage and educate participants and are led by professionals with chronic pain themselves.
Subjects covered in the sessions include:
• Techniques to deal with problems such as fatigue, frustration, pain and isolation
• Appropriate use of medications
• How to communicate effectively with family, friends and medical professionals
• Nutrition tips and advice
• Decision making
• How to evaluate new treatments
The program meets once a week on Wednesday, beginning April 1st. Each participant will also receive a companion book,
“Living a Healthy Life With Chronic Conditions,” and a Chronic Pain Workbook with “Moving Easy” CD. Advance registration is required.
LIVING WELL WITH HEARING LOSS

Presenters: Joanna Sudyka/Danielle Sanko Graduate student clinicians from the Worcester State University Speech-Language-
Hearing Center will present an interactive and informative talk about living well with hearing loss. The students will discuss factors
that contribute to hearing loss, the effects hearing loss has on quality of life, strategies to enhance communication, hearing aids, and
hearing assistive technology. Suggestions about how to communicate effectively with a person with hearing loss will be provided
to loved ones and friends. The presentation will be followed by a short question and answer session. In addition, attendees will
have an opportunity to participate in a self assessment to see if further evaluation of hearing is warranted. Informational handouts
and examples will be available for those who are interested.

Join Cheryl Burgess, Respiratory Therapist at Marlborough Hill Healthcare Center and Molly Coyne, LPN from Bouvier Pharmacy, at this new support group. QIGONG TAI CHI FOR HEALTH AND VITALITY

Qi means "breath, or vital life force" and gong means "to cultivate or work". Qigong is a lifestyle, living in harmony with nature; a way of exercise, meditation, and practices of the body, mind, and spirit. Tai Chi is a sequence of fluid movements using the principles of Qigong movements to help reduce stress and high blood pressure, improve balance and flexibility to reduce the risk of falling, and increase endurance and mobility, In this class we will begin with Qigong warm ups and then progress into Tai Chi movements. Qigong Tai Chi is suitable for people of all ages, standing or sitting. Please wear loose clothing and comfortable shoes when doing this exercise. Rose Lee has been teaching Chinese martial arts for more than 20 years in fitness clubs, retirement
communities and senior centers. She is an inspiring enthusiastic instructor.
