Stand Up Straight! How Posture Influences Health is a 45 minute presentation with time for questions and answers of how poor postural changes can negatively affect health as we age. The
effects of posture influence many systems in the body, from musculoskeletal, to respiratory, to vestibular to name a few. Essentially, when posture is poor, the possible harmful side effects
are numerous to the different body systems noted. The presentation will discuss what poor posture is and then address ways to 1) improve your posture and then 2) how to maintain
posture through exercise, stability training and balance training. Kevin Flaherty is a Physical Therapist with over 25 years of working with seniors and is the owner of Flaherty Physical Therapy in
LIVING WELL WITH HEARING LOSS

Speakers: Graduate Students from Worcester State University
Graduate student clinicians from the Worcester State University Speech-Language-Hearing Center will host an interactive discussion on hearing loss and the effects of a hearing loss on
everyday life. We will discuss common causes of hearing loss, provide information about hearing aid technologies, types of communicators, and strategies to enhance communication.
Strategies to assist a loved one with a hearing loss will be included. We will also conduct a hearing self-assessment questionnaire to determine the impact of hearing loss on
a person’s life. Following the presentation there will be an opportunity to view the devices, hearing assistive technologies and informational handouts. The interactive presentation will
last about 45 minutes.
LEARN TO TAKE CONTROLOF YOUR DIABETES
A 6 week Diabetes Self-Management series is starting on April 6 from 1:00–3:30 PM. You’ll learn techniques to deal with diabetes symptoms, fatigue, pain, and hyper/hypoglycemia, better nutrition and exercise choices, how to improve your patient/physician relationship, medication management, and skills to manage symptoms. Learn to take control of your Diabetes! There will be a door prize of a $25 gift card at the end of the workshop. To be a full participant people need to attend 4 out of the 6 weekly
sessions. If you don’t want to attend alone bring a friend with you, the program is open to anyone 18 and older with diabetes.
The courses meet for 2 1/2 hours per week for six weeks. During these six weeks you will learn:
• Techniques to deal with diabetes symptoms, fatigue, pain, and hyper/hypoglycemia
• Better nutrition and exercise choices
• How to improve your patient/physician relationship
• Medications & Management
• Skills to manage symptoms
