Library Assistant – Children’s Services
The Northborough Free Library is seeking an innovative, motivated and enthusiastic Children’s Library Assistant to join our dedicated staff!
Description: The Children’s Library Assistant will assist the Children’s Services Librarian in the provision of quality programs and services to children and families at the library, in the local school system and in the greater community. We are seeking a professional, outgoing, friendly customer service champion who can readily adapt to changing demands and priorities. The ideal candidate will enjoy working with children and caregivers, be very familiar with children’s literature, be knowledgeable about best practices in serving the needs of children in a public library environment, be positive and self-motivated.
This is a full-time, 40-hour/week position, including two evenings per week and rotating Saturdays. Wage range is $19.53-25.39/hour, depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits.
Qualifications: Associates degree or 2 years of college and a minimum of 1.5 years of library experience or experience working with children; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. A Bachelor’s degree is preferred. Candidate must be a non-smoker per union contract. Note: The employee in this position is represented by the Northborough Municipal Employees Association.
Candidates must possess effective customer service and communication skills and demonstrate the ability to serve a wide and diverse public audience, particularly children. Qualified applicants must also demonstrate a high degree of comfort with technology and the ability to learn and apply new skills including familiarity with iPads, eReaders, downloadable materials, and the ability to add and edit content on the library’s website, on social media, and on our online event calendar.
