TOWER ONE

The primary function of Tower One is rescue from height, roof ventilation, and elevated master stream operation.  The Tower is second due to reported fires and alarm investigations.  Equipped with a 114-foot articulating boom and jib attached to an operation platform Bronto Skyklift, the Tower is a highly agile and effective aerial device for rescue and firefighting operations.  With its reach and articulation, the Tower can maneuver into positions and reach multiple fireground points without the need to re-position, unlike traditional ladder or tower ladder trucks.  The Tower is initially staffed by two of the four career firefighters/EMTs on duty.

The Tower has a pre-piped waterway for elevated master stream operations of 1,000 gpm and a pre-connected 100-foot 1 ¾” hand line in the platform bucket for quick deployment during roof ventilation operations, exterior fire suppression, or interior fire attack into the upper stories of buildings.  With its 300-gallon water tank and 2,000 gpm pump, the Tower has all the capabilities and features of a traditional fire engine as well as those of a ladder truck/tower operation and is classified as a Quint or multiple use unit.

Combined mitigation funding from the Avalon Bay and Northborough Crossings developments funded this purchase in part along with donations from a civic group and a private donation resulting in a net purchase price to the town of $525,000.
