The Northborough Fire Department protects approximately 18 square miles of property. Included in this are several areas of dense growth and brush inaccessible to conventional firefighting vehicles. Forestry 1 is first to respond to fires involving burning brush, grass, leaves, as well as small outside fires. Due to its compact size, and 4-wheel drive capability, Forestry 1 is well suited for this purpose. This vehicle was delivered during the 2000. This vehicle is a custom vehicle manufactured by Stanley Emergency Products. It is equipped with a Brush fires often require foam to be mixed in concentrate form with water for additional penetration and
extinguishing ability. Forestry 1 is equipped with a Scotty around the pump proportioner carries a cartridge-type system of solid concentrate that when dissolved in a chamber with water, forms a working solution of foam to be pumped through hose lines. Liquid concentrate can as well be injected directly into the tank for extinguishment. Support equipment includes a chainsaw, various tools and rakes, and a floating pump for supplying water from static water sources.
