The Northborough Fire Department operates Engine 3 as the tertiary fire response unit; and can function in a variety of different roles. A structural firefighting engine capable of initiating and supporting an initial fire attack, Engine 3 can also serve in a support capacity providing water supply in large-scale operations. Due to the large pump on the apparatus, Engine 3 is very effective in pumping from the water source, through large diameter hose, to fire attack equipment at the fire scene. The apparatus is as well equipped with a firefighting foam system. This system applies foam concentrate mixed in small quantities with water for more effective fire extinguishment. The system provides class A foam for structural applications, and class B foam for flammable liquids. The large cab can accommodate up to six firefighters, and
carries a full complement of firefighting equipment including S.C.B.A., tools, lighting equipment, emergency medical supplies and 1800 ft. of large diameter hose.
