The Northborough Fire Department utilizes Engine 2 as a second response Engine to most fire related incidents. It is also used for mutual aid responses to neighboring towns. Engine 2 is staffed by a minimum of two firefighters and will carry up to six firefighters. It is well-suited to provide an initial fire attack or to supply water during extended operations. The 1000 gallon tank as well as pre-connected hose lines allow the quick application of water to most fire situations. The 2000' of Large Diameter Hose (LDH) is utilized to provide a supply of water to the initial fire attack pumper. A portable water tank allows water supply operations to proceed even when operating in areas where fire hydrants are not readily available. The apparatus is designed with a large cab and is used to carry sufficient personnel
to support the first arriving fire attack crew. In addition, the cab is used as a rehabilitation area where firefighters and victims can seek refuge from inclement weather. This enlarged cab is heated and air-conditioned to provide an environmentally controlled area for quicker recovery from heat stress or cold exposure. The complement of various other firefighting equipment such as ladders, tools and self -contained breathing apparatus (S.C.B.A) provide the support for search, rescue, lighting, and fire control operations.
