The Northborough Fire Department utilizes Engine 1 as the first response pumper to most fire related incidents. These include structure fires, vehicle fires, commercial and residential fire alarms, as well as various other fire emergency responses. Engine 1 is typically staffed by the on-duty firefighters and is well-suited to provide for initial fire attack operations. The apparatus is compact, with a short wheelbase that provides access to narrow driveways, and limited approach areas. The 1,000 gallon tank as well as pre-connected hose lines allow the quick application of water to most fire situations. With the addition of the foam injection system, this engine is capable of providing Class-A or Class-B foam in a fast and efficient manor. These water additives greatly improve the extinguishing effect of the
vehicles' water. The complement of various other firefighting equipment such as ladders, tools and self -contained breathing apparatus (S.C.B.A) provide the support to begin search, rescue, and fire control operations.
