The Northborough Fire Department is customarily staffed with 2 transport ambulances.
Both ambulances are equipped to the ALS level of patient care, and are run as such -if ALS personnel are present.

Customarily any ambulance -on it's arrival- functions as the primary response unit.

The previous primary response ambulance is 'moved back' and used as the secondary response unit, until it is retired.

This rotation of ambulances provides for the most reliable primary ambulance, while -in a fiscally responsible manner- providing the townspeople a second EMS unit. It also fills-in for the primary ambulance when  breakdowns or maintenance take it 'off-line.'

An ambulance -customarily- sees 10 years of service; 5 years as the primary ambulance and 5 years as the secondary ambulance..
