NOTICE OF UTILITY RATE ADJUSTMENT
The Town of Northborough Public Works Department provides water and sewer service to approximately 4,300 accounts. The Town’s water and sewer utilities are self-supporting enterprise funds authorized under M.G.L. Chapter 44, Section 53F½. Water and sewer rates must be adequate to finance each fund’s operating and maintenance costs, debt service obligations and capital improvements. In order to continue to adequately provide water and sewer services to the residents, the Town of Northborough Public Works Department must adjust its rates to cover the cost of these services.
At a public hearing held in the Town Hall on August 16, 2016, the Water and Sewer Commission took public comment relative to the proposed rate change. Subsequently, the Commission met on September 20, 2016 and voted unanimously to have no increase in the water service base charge, no increase in the water rates and to increase the sewer rates by 20%. These rates are effective with this 2nd Quarter billing cycle (bills due December, 2016).
